Who we are...

Kagyu Sukha Chöling (KSC) is a Tibetan Buddhist center offering rich and varied programs to the community from meditation instruction and retreats, to classes in philosophy and sacred literature, group practices, and many other services. The timeless, accessible teachings of the Buddha available through the center cultivate inner peace, compassion, and insight. Everyone is welcome to enter its doors.

Why we are building...

Since its inception in 2000, KSC has grown steadily and has now expanded beyond the capacity of its current site. To accommodate the ever-increasing number of students and programs, KSC needs a larger home.

About the Center...

In 2006, KSC purchased a site in the heart of Ashland on which to construct a meditation center and obtained the building permit. The building will be a three-story, 5,800 square-foot facility. The ground floor will contain KSC offices, a classroom, a library, and commercial rental space. The second floor is designed as a spacious meditation hall. The upper floor will house the two resident teachers and will provide additional quarters for visiting lamas. A small contemplative garden will also be developed.

Completing the Center...

Following site excavation in 2007, a Foundation Consecration ceremony was led by Lama Lodru Rinpoche. By the end of 2008, over $700,000 had been raised. The first floor walls had been constructed and 95% of the steel structure was in place.

Early in 2009, the board of directors made a decision to take the building to occupancy. The next phase of construction began in late June, with an expected move-in date of December, 2009. As we look towards completion, we are seeking $750,000 through fundraising and special events.
