Classes are taught at the Ashland center Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Fall, Winter and Spring, and are four to seven weeks in length.
In the 2016-2017 academic year, the lamas will teach one class each season. This fall, they begin a new series of foundational teachings, with each season focusing on one of the three vehicles of Buddhism.
The Three Vehicles of Buddhism: The Second Turning
This winter, the lamas will continue their new series on the three expressions of the Buddha’s teachings. The Second Turning of the Wheel of the Dharma emphasizes the Bodhisattva Path of cultivating the awakened heart and mind (bodhicitta), and acting on behalf of all sentient beings. To deepen ones loving kindness and compassion, as well as to explore the wisdom of emptiness, the practitioner will receive an introduction to The Six Paramitas (transcendental virtues), Lojong (Mind Training and the Tonglen meditation), and the selflessness of phenomena. This class is open to all. Attendance at the autumn class on The First Turning is not a prerequisite.
Tuesdays, Jan, 31 – March 7, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Tuition: $145 ($125 for KSC members at $25 per month dues) Scholarships available. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
The Three Vehicles of Buddhism: The First Turning
The First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma, in which the Buddha gave such seminal teachings as the Four Noble Truths, the Marks of Existence, the Four Veils, the Links of Interdependent Origination, and others. These are the foundation of all Buddhist outlook and meditation, and thus they constitute a sturdy base for our personal study and practice.
