The Four Immeasurables: Our Aspirations for the World

In this world of so much suffering and fear, the four immeasurable qualities of loving kindness, compassion, empathetic joy and equanimity are contemplations we can practice and radiate out to our world.

We all naturally wish that all beings may experience increasing harmony, mercy, non-aggression, and equality. These wishes can become immeasurable, and their impact immeasurable, as we learn to transcend ego’s limits. We train in the possibilities of Buddha Nature, the relationship with the spiritual friend, confidence and egolessness. Then we begin to glimpse the genuine unbounded nature of our loving relationship toward all, as well as our understanding and engagement with the suffering of all. We begin to witness a native joy in the nature of reality, as well as the power of living as actual equals to all.

These unlimited attitudes are truly the best medicine – for ourselves and for our world.
