Dr. Paul Condon  Science & Meditation

Science and Meditation: Perspectives from Neuroscience, Social Psychology, and Buddhist Studies

Saturday, April 13, 9:00 – Noon

SOU Professor and KSC Sangha member, Dr. Paul Condon, will make this presentation

Buddhism and science have increasingly influenced each other over the past three decades. Scientists, for example, promote meditation programs to address various social problems, including mental health, burnout in health care, social-emotional learning, and efforts for social justice. Meanwhile, Buddhist meditation practices in the west are often adapted into scientific frameworks, yielding a unique form of Buddhism called Buddhist Modernism. In this session, we will examine groundbreaking research on the effects of meditation from the fields of neuroscience and social psychology. We will also discuss critiques and methodological challenges to scientific research of meditation, and discuss the juxtaposition of scientific research with Buddhist practice.

Suggested donation $25. Open to all, no registration is required.
