The Creation and Completion Stages of Tibetan Buddhist Meditation

Tibetan Buddhist meditations rely upon the method of visualization. In the creation stage, practitioners visualize themselves in the form of buddhas and other enlightened beings, in order to break down their own ordinary concepts of themselves. This meditation practice prepares the mind for engaging in the completion stage, where one has a direct encounter with the ultimate nature of mind and reality.

Rinpoche will give succinct instructions for this style of meditation, as well as the purposes and benefits of such a powerful method.

"Since every aspect of ourselves is intrinsically pure, the path can employ any method to bring us back to our own nature. The deities used in tantric practice are a manifestation of this pure nature. In one sense, they exist as a method to undermine our pathetic projection of ourselves and our universe as flawed, a way of connecting with our true human/Buddha nature. At the same time, they are that nature." — Lama Sarah Harding, from the introduction to Creation and Completion, Essential Points of Tantric Meditation

Green Tara Empowerment and Instructions

Green Tara expresses the feminine energy of Buddha’s compassion. As Green Tara embodies fearlessness, practicing this meditation reduces conflicting emotions, increases compassion and loving kindness toward all beings, and deepens ones natural devotion.

"Tara is an inspirational figure embodying the most compelling and vital qualities of the feminine: Beauty, grace, and the ability to nurture, care for and protect. Tara is a true warrior, vanquishing fear and ignorance, both externally and internally; she is the earliest known Buddhist feminist." — From Skillful Grace: Tara Practice for Our Times, teachings by Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche

"Tara added that there were many who followed the path in a man’s body, few in a woman’s body. 'As for myself, as long as samsara is not emptied, I will benefit beings appearing in a female body.'"

Suggested donation: $60 for the day. No pre-registration is required.
