Difficult conversations happen not because people don't care, but because they care deeply in different ways. In challenging moments, multiple conversations are happening at once: what happened, how it felt, and how our sense of self or power was affected. When these layers go unrecognized, people stop feeling safe to be seen or heard, and conversations stall or fracture. Problems go unsolved. Relationships suffer.

Come build practical skills for navigating those moments with clarity and care. Learn to listen to understand rather than dismantle, speak for yourself with honesty and respect, disentangle intention from impact, and advocate clearly while honoring differences. Using real-world examples and common sticky wickets, we'll practice talking in ways that strengthen relationships and build community—even in the midst of challenges.

Lama Lekshe King-Tamang has been practicing Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal, India and the US since 1994. She completed a traditional three-year retreat in 2019 in the Shangpa Kagyu tradition, with support from the Tsadra Foundation. She is currently the Resident Lama for Dekeling, a lively meditation community with centers in Portland, Oregon, and in the Hudson Valley in upstate New York. Before retreat, she worked in lifelong learning as a consultant and teacher.
